Tech Point Build is an annual conference that celebrates outstanding startups, entrepreneurs, investors, and influencers in Nigeria, across fintech, blockchain, health tech, edutech, agrotech, and travel tech. It is hosted by Tech Point Africa, and it is aimed at connecting key players in the African tech startup community.
Since its inception in 2017, Techpoint Build has successively held for four consecutive years, with over 5,000 people attending each gathering. The theme for this year “The Next Frontier” was the most exciting one yet. Fincra (amongst other organizations) sponsored this event because the theme aligned with our goal to be the next frontier for payments infrastructure in Africa. Our team had a booth where we showcased and discussed our products to the key players in the tech community that were present
Here are 3 major things that happened at the event:
Interactive Panel Sessions and Fireside Chats
The day kicked off with an insightful keynote speech talk on Africa being the next frontier for emerging technologies from Adia Sowho, CMO of MTN Nigeria. There were lots of panel sessions and interactive conversations held with thought leaders and innovative minds in health tech, fintech travel tech and blockchain, many of which included a fireside chat with Ifeanyi Duru, the VP of Monnify, where he spoke on the evolution of the digital payment sector and how almost every startup has payments integrated now due to the global pandemic that is COVID 19.
Pitchstorm 3.0 Finals
An exciting part of the event was the pitch storm competition that showcased a number of amazing African startups across many fields in tech. Following a call for exciting tech innovations across West Africa, this edition of Pitchstorm received 149 entries. Although most of the entries were from Nigerian startups, companies from Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, and Burkina Faso also made the list. Seven startups were selected, after a preliminary pitch contest to proceed to the final stage, where a group of independent judges (industry experts in edtech, agritech, health tech, and media tech) assessed their pitches during the main event.
Ghanaian-founded agritech startup, Worldtech Consult successfully made it through three elimination stages to win a $10,000 non-equity fund. The startup provides solar-powered cold storage facilities for small-scale farmers and petty farmers.
Product Engagement Exhibitions
Over 15 startups, including Fincra, were present at the TechPointBuild2021 exhibition. The Fincra team had a blast interacting with thought leaders, innovators and members of the tech ecosystem. It gave us an avenue to connect with prospective leads, market our products and key offerings while networking with fellow techies in attendance. We were also able to give some of the people we interacted with, a quick demo of our platform and products.
We were glad to know that our products are already speaking for themselves, and according to public opinion, Fincra is fast becoming one of the most desirable places to work in Africa.
TechPointBuild2021 provided an opportunity to interact more closely with startup founders, investors, and the rest of the African tech ecosystem. We look forward to sponsoring and participating in more events that will enable us to further promote the Fincra brand this year and beyond.
