Introduction
Fincra was a massive part of the successful kick-off of the first edition of the API Conference, Lagos, on Saturday, July 2024, an event aimed at promoting API literacy amongst the different developer ecosystems in Lagos and Nigeria.
Fincra partnered with API Conference, Lagos, 2024, as the Platinum Sponsor for this event. As a technology-driven company that uses API solutions to deliver payment solutions, we used this opportunity to engage the developer community.
Several members of our tribe, including the engineering team, fully represented Fincra. Our Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Teniola Makinde, delivered an insightful keynote speech, while our Engineering Manager, Wale Adeniji, participated in an informative panel session.
If you are part of the developer community in Nigeria and missed this event, this blog recaps the most important parts of the conference.
Fincra as a Platinum Sponsor
As Platinum Sponsors of the API Conference, we boosted awareness and adoption of our APIs and SDKs and fostered connections within the developer community.
We had a booth where we interacted with attendees enquiring about our APIs and products.
We also used the opportunity to encourage developers to join our Developer Community platform, Fincra Hub.
Fincra Developer Advocate
During our interactions with attendees and people around the developer community, we introduced our APIs to them. We encouraged the developers to join our Developer Community platform, Fincra Hub, and become Fincra Developer Advocates.
The Fincra Hub is a warm community of Tech enthusiasts who constantly innovate and expand the possibilities of what is achievable using Fincra’s API suite.
After joining this community, developers have the opportunity to become Fincra Developer Advocates, helping to spread the API gospel of Fincra and, in turn, earning extra income from commission. They also get invitations to exclusive Fincra events and access mentorship opportunities from the senior developers on our team.
Our CTO’s presentation
Fincra’s CTO, Teniola Makinde, delivered an insightful keynote presentation titled “Building Resilient Systems with Idempotent APIs.”
Idempotent APIs ensure that repeated requests produce the same result, which is crucial for robustness and reliability, especially in distributed systems.
In his note, Teniola gave real-world applications of Idempotent APIs, including payment processing, order processing and distributed systems.
Fincra’s Engineering Manager on adhering to government regulations while building useful systems
Our Engineering Manager, Wale Adeniji, participated in an informative panel session that discussed adhering to government regulations while building useful systems.
In this session, Wale made some insightful contributions, reminding developers to be aware of compliance when building.
Key takeaways
The event was overall insightful, featuring notable contributions from key figures in the developer community. Here are some key takeaways:
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhering to regulatory requirements is a shared responsibility across all departments, including engineering, regardless of the jurisdiction.
- Built-In Compliance: Regulatory compliance should be integrated into every solution from the start.
- API Security: Ensure robust API security and proper error handling. Be cautious about the information provided to users in error messages, as this could be exploited to attack the platform.
- Payment API Considerations: Focus on security, reliability, and thoughtful design when developing payment APIs.
